There are a number of sports clubs, teams, and organizations in Orillia, Ontario, with a long history of success and excellence.
The Orillia and District Soccer Club
The Orillia and District Soccer Club has a history of more than half a century and is one of the well-established and largest clubs on the territory of North Simcoe. This is an umbrella club with a membership of more than 40 teams, which has grown from just two teams over the years. The district soccer club also offers recreational soccer to young children and adolescents aged 4 to 18 years of age. There are competitive and recreational or developmental teams in the age groups 9 to 25 and older. The club welcomes teams from different divisions, including House League (Age 6 and Under, Age 5 and Under, Age 4 and Under, etc.), Age 12 Boys District League, Age 9 District Development League, and so on. There are pre-season practices and courses to help develop players through video, text, graphics, and practice. The club also offers a training program that is specifically designed for coaches within clubs or community soccer organizations.
The House League has been established to cater to youth and young children aged 4 and over. This approach proved quite successful so far, with team and field sizes that are established to be age appropriate. Summer camps are also organized, for example, the British Soccer Camp to help children and youth master essential skills and techniques and reach their potential. Summer camp activities include daily World Cup tournaments, coached scrimmages, small-sided games, tactical practices, technical skills, foot skills, and a lot more. This camp is organized in cooperation with and with the support of Challenger Sports, a leading U.S. program. Programs have been developed for all age groups to help young players master essential skills and values such as leadership, sportsmanship, cooperation, integrity, and responsibility.
Orillia Inter Soccer Club and Other Clubs
This club welcomes teams across age groups, including Over 45, Over 35, and Premier. Leading scorers for the Over 35 year group include Paul Mieschke, Chris Russell, Dave Malt, James Boddy, Chris Gilewicz, and others. The Over 45 group is also quite active and plaid against teams such as Barrie Masters, Orangeville, Wasaga Beach, Barrie Packers, Innisfil, and others.
The Orillia Lions Group is a sports club that was established back in 1973 and has sponsored and supported many initiatives, events, and organizations, including lacrosse, baseball, mini hockey, and soccer. The club also offers support to local initiatives and summer clubs for youth. The Rotary Club of Orillia – Lake Country partners with organizations such as the Orillia Lions Club and Rotary Club of Orillia and supports a diverse array of projects, initiatives, and organizations, including local lacrosse and soccer organizations.
